Carly traveled with her girlfriend Kara to Washington, DC, to propose. Carly and Kara’s Washington DC proposal photos are some of my favorite!
A few weeks before Carly and Kara traveled to Washington, DC, Carly reached out to me from Ontario, Canada. She wanted to propose to her girlfriend. After discussing various options such as proposing on the Mall, the Museum of Women in the Arts, and other DC locations, we decided to shoot their proposal around the US Capitol.
We started at Union Station. The US Capital can be very confusing. It is the technical center of Washington, D.C., and the streets radiate away from this location beginning with the same 0, 0 point. So, one block from the US Capitol is 1st Street NE, NW, SE, or SW. This continues on for all the streets radiating away from the Capitol. Confusing for out-of-town guests and DC’ers alike. Meeting at Union Station was a great launching point for our Washington DC proposal photos… and those arches have me like all the heart eyes!
As we walked the the few blocks to the Capitol, we nervously chatted about politics. It’s politics that brought Kara and Carly together- both Canadian and international. After months of sharing their love politics, they finally started dating. Carly admits that she pushed back at the thought of dating Kara for quite so time. Still, Carly was the first to buy a ring, reached out to me for proposal photos, and cried with all the happy tears and she proposed to Kara.
Kara has an uncanny way of knowing what’s on Carly’s heart long before Carly does.
After long discussing the desire to get married to each other, and even trying on wedding rings, Washington DC proposal photos were not unexpected souvenirs from their DC travels. The nerves and excitement were palpable, however. And, even this photographer got in on the tears!
After Carly’s proposal, Kara also had a ring…. and had it on her! Luckily, there are so many scenic spots around the US Capital, and Kara took advantage of a second location to propose to Carly.
We finished up by walking our way to Library of Congress and enjoying the last of the beautiful day. The couple then headed off to District Winery and the Top of the Gate, the rooftop of the Watergate to celebrate.
