Although I am a Washington DC newborn photographer, I often travel to shoot newborns in the surrounding areas. On a recent trip back to Alaska, however, I had the opportunity to shoot my sister’s new-little one. So, more than just a Washington DC newborn photographer, I’m occasionally an Interior Alaska newborn photographer.
My brother left Alaska for a few years, but returned. “The mountains are calling, and I must go,” is a famous quote from John Muir. My sister and brother-in-law and parents still live in Alaska… so I guess that leaves me, the only marauder to leave home for “America.” (<– what my dad affectionately calls the lower-48.)
What do people “do” in Alaska, you might ask. Well, my brother works at the local bank. My parents, a retired FAA and a retired teacher, own a bed and breakfast that has been featured on a zillion places… like MSN! Check out here for more. My sister works for the huge telecommunications company, and my brother-in-law is a pilot. Only fitting that they named their sweet little one “Amelia,” right?
Alaska has the greatest percentage of pilots in the nation— even three times greater than #2 on the list, Montana. In a huge state with only 3 highways, the ability to fly is necessary and valued.
They also make beautiful, red-haired babies as well! I’m the lucky aunt who gets to play with them while stepping out of my Washington DC newborn photographer role and into my Interior Alaska newborn photographer role.
Everyone has a hobby, and for my sister, it’s car racing (<– yes, you read that correctly) and knitting. Interesting combo, right? Luckily for me, she brought along some great knit, although I can’t remember if it is her work, to dress the cuties for some sister photos.
Girls don’t always have to be princesses and unicorns, they can be dinosaurs as well!
I need to make this last one into a Christmas ornament. Big sister is ADORABLE.
So, there you have it. In additional to enjoying life as a Washington DC newborn photographer, I occasionally pack my bags for destinations. Alaska for sweet babies will always be on top of the list!
If you want to check out other newborn sessions, I’d love to have you stick around. See here for more. If you’re interested in your own session, first, YAY! Secondly, shoot me an email here, and we’ll set it up.
