Christmas is such an exciting time to have a newborn in the house. When Cristina reached out to me about shooting her sweet bundle of joy, I was over the moon. She purchased with perfect hat, the holly tree in her front yard was in berries (bloom?), and everything came together for the perfect Christmas newborn photos.
Newborn photos and wedding photos go through trends. For weddings, it’s film, light and airy, moody, posed, photo journalistic, editorial, etc. I like to implement a little bit of it all. Same with newborn trends.
Let’s stop for a second to chat about this stinking cute hat. I’m sure I’m going to get a lot of questions. I don’t know the exact maker, but here is a very similar hat.
In-home sessions are in vogue currently. I LOVE in-home sessions, but many photographers rely on them heavily because they are nervous around babies, don’t know how to pose them… there is a lot of fear. To pose babies, you have to know how to bend, wrap, and sooth them. Takes practice!
I get it! I used to be nervous too. But practice, practice, practice. I’ve had three of my own in addition to the babies I shoot. So, I’ve had a lot of practice.
So, my style is to incorporate a little bit of both the posed and life-style sessions when shooting at the client’s home. We take some posed, and then some beautiful “real life” shots to round out a client’s gallery and album.
So, that’s my style. I like to incorporate the perfectly posed and a little bit of the messier and even more perfect real life. Which is your favorite style? Do you like the posed, life-style, or a little mix of the both? These are some of my favorite Christmas newborn photos.
